ABOUT
I am a freelance director and stage manager bringing my combined technical experience and artistic perspective to work with communities, young artists, and professional productions.
I am especially drawn to work which seeks to dismantle barriers between ‘audience’ and ‘artists’, with a focus on live music, site-specific, and accessible storytelling. My recent projects have been shared in fields, barns, and cathedrals, as well as theatre venues and festivals.
My approach is often musically led, supported by my technical theatre and opera experience. Using simple, stripped back, and improvised or make-shift moments, I aim to make space for imagination and suggestion, as well as encouraging others to explore their own unique voices.
Like most freelancers, I wear a few different hats…
STAGE MANAGEMENT:
I originally trained in Theatre Practice at Central School of Speech and Drama, and have worked in professional theatre ever since.
My recent stage management work includes: NT CONNECTIONS 2025 (National Theatre); IL TROVATORE (Royal Opera House); WONDER BOY (Bristol Old Vic & UK Tour); and THE CHOIR OF MAN (Arts Theatre).
For more information on my SM experience please get in touch.
CREATIVE WORK:
I have an MA in Directing from Bristol Old Vic Theatre School, where my student production of HOW MY LIGHT IS SPENT by Alan Harris was awarded the Elsie Roberts Directing Prize, and later funded for a professional run at London’s Riverside Studios.
I now work regularly as a director/associate, as well as engaging in long-term collaborations with writers and composers to develop new writing, having previously gained experience in project funding as an Associate Producer for Waterperry Opera Festival.
ASSISTANT DIRECTING:
I have been a touring assistant/associate director for Opera Brava’s productions of TOSCA, LA TRAVIATA, and LA BOHEME.
In 2022 I was awarded support from the Ken Pickering Future Directors scheme, enabling me to assist on Lazarus Theatre’s radically re-imagined HAMLET at Southwark Playhouse, in partnership with the Shakespeare For Schools project.
Further assistant director credits include: HENRY VI by William Shakespeare (dir. Gemma Fairlie) at Bristol Old Vic; THE LAST DAYS OF JUDAS ISCARIOT by Stephen Adly Guirgis (dir. Nik Partridge) at The Station; and TREASURE ISLAND (dir. David Thackeray) devised with the Central School of Speech and Drama’s Youth Theatre company.
FACILITATION / RESEARCH:
As a facilitator I have led workshops for secondary school students through the National Theatre’s Discover Creative Careers scheme, as well as running week-long R&D projects and workshops for actors and writers at Bristol Old Vic Theatre School. These included research projects into digital theatre, exploring the potential opportunities and pitfalls of Virtual Reality and AI as theatre-making tools.
Further recent research has included a Bloomberg Workshop for the Young Vic, investigating the effective set-up and use of Hybrid Work Space technology in rehearsals.
